Berkeley Hills - March 16th, 2002

by Jimil Borillo

I wasn't expecting to ride this weekend since weather man was forcasting rain. Saturday comes along and I wake up to 3 of the guys coming over to my house to invite me out for a ride. The sun was out and it wasn't TOO cold so after kicking back and letting it warm up for awhile we headed north on 101 towards San Francisco.

The plan was to jet over to Scuderia for a quick stop, then over to Treasure Island for a few pics then over to the Berkeley hills and the infamous "Wall". From there we hit Skyline Blvd and rode along the ridge and checked out the million dollar homes and the million dollar views. From Skyline we jumped on Redwood Road where we found almost no traffic and smooth clean pavement. If you haven't been on Redwood Road yet you gotta try it. Redwood Road is one of the coolest roads in the east bay. Nice sweepers and some really fun chicanes. We had way too much fun on it. It was a welcome change to riding Mines/Calaveras/Mt. Hamilton/Del Puerto (not that those roads aren't fun).

The sun was close to setting by the time we reached Castro Valley so we decide to head home via the super slab. 580 to 680 brought us home in a scant 25 minutes.

It was a pretty good day for a ride considering how cool it was along with the wind, but the sun was out and we all had a blast.
