AFM Weekend @ Sears Point Raceway - April 14thWrite up by Jimil Weather reports said Sears Point was in for very light rain on Sunday. Lucky for us they were wrong...again. We had beautiful sunshine and clear skies. A perfect day for racing. Sears Point has almost completed its renovations and is looking good. The new grandstands at the start area are almost finished and the terraced seating at other parts of the track are pretty much done. However it looks like they don't have a network of bridges to cross through the tracks infield and getting from one end of the track to the other will be quite a long walk. I hope they do something about it. Several CanyonStrafer members are also AFM racers. The guys who raced on Sunday were Dale Palmer, Andy Carman, Dito Milian, and Chris Rollins. Tommy Nguyen was out cause of an ankle injury at our last trackday and Mike Solis was out cause bike damage from his last get off. A few of us headed up that day to root our boys on. I decided to cage it to the track and Ricky and Joel tagged along. We saw Mike Solis and Sinh Ung there and we all hung out. We mostly stayed up in the Turn 2 grandstands but we also checked out the front straight and chilled in the pits. The racing was pretty very cool to watch from Turn 2 as its a bit off camber and a tad bit tricky to negotiate. The back straight saw a lot of passes and so did the little chicane before Turn 1. We saw a few crashes, some of them looked pretty serious, but I think everyone came out ok. Luckily none of our boys got hurt. Chris Rollins did have an incident in Turn 7. A rider went down in front of the rider in front of him and he ended up colliding with the rider in front of him as well as the 1st rider who went down. Miraculously he held it up and was able to finish the race with a busted radiator. Congrats to Andy Carman who managed to finish 3rd and 4th in two of his races!!! There were 12 races that day. Here's what races our boys were in. 1. Open Twins, Singles, 500
Twins, S-Dinosaur - Dale Palmer #216 |
